Gavin Symonds has just set a new SUP record time of 29 hours and 16 minutes during the Thames 200 Ultra race which sees paddlers race 200km along the River Thames, UK.
Here is Gavin;
A paddle I’ve wanted to do for a few years. The non tidal section of the Thames I had planned for this year but injuries prevented it. But last week I found out that a race was organised but having missed registration cut off thought my opportunity was lost. The organisers of the first Thames200ultra gave me a last minute place so that was it no training and a chance to see if I could make it down the Thames.
44 locks, no real flow, 29:16 hours, 52,637 paddle strokes later I crossed the finish line in first place making it the fastest known sup down the Thames.
Big thanks go out to @lisa_red for taxi service and generally putting up with me and @jonny_n_the_hat for midnight crew chief and also big shout goes to the organisers and volunteers of an amazing event so well run hopefully more suppers get inspired to give it a go next year @thamesultra200
A huge congratulations to Gavin!! We have been supporting Gavin throughout his SUP journey recently and you can see more videos of him below.
