Welcome to our collection of the biggest news and stories that have taken place in the SUP world from the previous month. Let's recap what happened in March 2024.
Welcome To Paddle UK - Previously British Canoeing
British Canoeing has commenced a new era for the organisation, with the launch of the new Paddle UK name and brand identity.
Over the last five years, the rapid growth in recreational paddling by a broader and more diverse audience has resulted in a change in the interests of members. The new name reflects the demographics of the evolving membership and is far more inclusive as it captures more fully the breadth of paddling activity that falls under Paddle UK’s responsibility, including kayaking, canoeing, stand up paddleboarding and paddlesport. 85% of members are recreational paddlers, who take part in paddling activities for fun, enjoyment and to be close to nature.

India Paddle Festival - With APP World Tour
Mangalore, India provided the perfect venue for the APP’s first step in India with the APP sanctioned India Paddle Festival. The India Paddle Festival is the first step for international Stand Up Paddling in the region and Sasihithlu Beach provided the absolutely perfect venue to showcase the sport. A magical mix of Ocean and River conditions provided the ideal test for a selection of the World’s Best making it out for this special event and an ideal forerunner to the 2024 APP World Tour season that will be announced later this month.
Fernando Perez Serra and Esperanza Barreras took the win in the inaugural event as part of the APP World Tour. The APP’s first step in India proves an overwhelming success, as the foundations have been laid for a bright future
The small town of Mulki in Mangalore played host to the first international Stand Up Paddling event in India this past weekend and history was made. The local community came together in a monumental way to make the event happen and welcome the athletes coming in from Spain, Italy, Denmark, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Hungary and beyond for such an incredible experience.
The APP is proud to have been a part of building this new legacy with Surfing Swami Foundation and Mantra Surf Club and we are excited to take the next step with the team towards a bright future for the sport in India. The food, the people, the conditions for Stand Up Paddling and the overall experience have been unforgettable for all those who made it to this year’s India Paddle Festival and we are excited for what is to come. We look forward to returning in February of 2025.
Thailand Race Series - 2024
Inspired by the recent ICF SUP World Championships, Thailand’s SUP community has introduced a new SUP race series for 2024. Several passionate members of Thailand’s SUP community have just launched a brand-new monthly racing series that will take place at various locations in Bangkok and around the country.
The SUP Addict Championship – named in honor of the organizers’ popular Facebook group – is aimed at developing the country’s paddlers while further showcasing Thailand’s potential to be a regional leader in the international SUP community. The first race in the six-event series took place at Bangkok’s picturesque Taco Lake, home of Starboard’s headquarters, on March 2. Many of Thailand’s top riders came out to compete along with several international competitors.
After a challenging 8-km technical race, Daniel Hasulyo emerged as the winner, comfortably cruising over the finish line on a Sunova board, his first race since his recent surprise announcement of his switch to their team. Future SUP Addict Championship race locations will vary month to month, with the next event taking place on April 7, again in Bangkok.
