Blake Carmichael is the Last Paddler Standing champion for the 2023 edition of the toughest SUP endurance race in the world!
Blake Carmichael completed 50 laps to be crowned the Last Paddler Standing for 2023. The race started with 31 competitors who braved the 3.33 mile loop course, starting and finishing the loop within a one-hour period and continuing until there is one paddler left standing. At the 48 hour mark, the length of the loop increased to 5miles and Blake completed two extra laps at the extra distance.
In an act of sportsmanship, Alex Somoano who also completed the 49th lap, let Blake begin lap 50 by himself in order to complete the race and crown a winner. If the paddlers do not finish within the 1-hour lap time at the end of the race, the race wins. Alex sent Blake on his way to victory for the 2023 edition of the Last Paddler Standing. A true showing of camaraderie from Alex who said;
“I’m satisfied with my performance. I gave it my all and accomplished what I set out to achieve. Blake is an incredible paddler it’s nice for all the paddlers to have the support of the whole SUP community.”
