The APP World Tour is in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for the first SUP surf event since 2019. With the action kicking off today, tune in live to watch the world's best SUP surfers compete.
This year will see both the Pro Women and Men competing at some of the most well known and pumping waves Gran Canaria has to offer. A big feature of the event is the Junior contingent with high entry numbers in both the boys and girls divisions, alongside the trials event with all of the juniors also entering. A new addition to the 2022 Pro-Am is the SUP Longboard division which has been welcomed from a number of people across the globe pushing for more SUP longboard events. A stand out field of past prone longboard champions should make this a spectacle to watch.
Iballa Moreno is the top seed in the Pro women’s, but she will face some tough completion against current 2022 ISA World Champion Lucia Cosoleto and Brazilian SUP surfer Gabriela Sztamfater. The Brazilian storm are in strong force with 2012 APP World Champion Leco Salazar competing alongside current 2022 ISA World Champion Luiz Diniz and powerhouse Wellington Reis. The juniors include national champions from around the globe as the likes of Noa Stender from Denmark, Kapono Fukuda from Japan and 11 year old Pedro Veiga make their presence felt in the boys. Whilst in the girls, we see Annabel Page from the UK, Tiphaine Malliard from France, Marina Loayza from Spain and the Inoue sisters, Kaede and Sakura from Japan battling it out to be crowned champion. The longboard division sees Benoit Carpentier, one of the favourites to win, up against Leco Salazar, Zane Schweitzer, Take Inoue and more from around the world.
Morning call will be at 7:30am (WET/GMT) with the first heat starting at 8am following a favourable call from the contest director.
Our very own Beau Nixon will be commentating this event on the live webcast alongside actions sports and podcast host, Oli Russell-Cowan, so tune in today and all week to watch the action go down in Gran Canaria, Spain.
