On March 30th the LA Misterioa SUP Race returns to Gran Canaria . The race will be valid for the Euro Tour 2019 circuit after last year had a huge success, in its first international edition with the Pro and Amate race and will be valid for Canarian SUP race circuit too. The winners were two well-known names on the Italian scene, Paolo Marconi and Susak Molinero, they brought home the crown of the strongest, and this year they will be present again in Gran Canaria to defend their title. In 2018 there were almost 50 racers from the Canary Islands, mainland Spain, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Norway and France, but for this year’s edition are expected many athletes from all over the world.
The race
The event will be held March 30 on the beautiful beach of Arguineguìn with the Long Distance in the morning and the Sprint Race in the afternoon. The course of the long race will be very interesting, with 4 lap and three laps on the beach for a total of 16 km for the pros. There will be a prize money of 3200 euros.This will be split equally between both male and female athletes, exactly the same as we did last year. In SUP we are strong believers in gender equality and this should be supported. In our opinion women paddle just as hard as the men, furthermore the preparation and equipment costs within the elite category are exactly the same so women deserve the same award. This ethos will hopefully motivate more women to compete professionally, and thus serve as an example to other women who want to follow their dreams.While amateurs and categories under 18 instead have to travel 2 laps for a total of 8 km, the under 14 will cover a single 4 km lap. There will also be a popular race 2 km for the under 12 and for those who want to participate without competitive ambitions.
Once the long distance is over, there will be no time to take a breath that the 200 meters open sprint race is scheduled in the afternoon.
In 2018 Paolo Marconi and Susak Molinero imposed their rhythm and took home the victory. This year they are expected to start again along with other important names of the international sup. The 2018 world champion Bruno Hasulyo will be in Gran Canaria with his new brand Light Corp and will surely want to inaugurate his season with an excellent result. The Italians are also expected Martino Rogai , who is training right at the Canary in view of the 2019 season, and the very young Chiara Nordio , who will have to deal with the likes of Susak and the German Sonni Honscheid. We cannot forget last year surprise young german racer Noelani Sach who will like to get the podium too. But there will certainly be many Spanish and international outsiders who want to prevail over the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the youth categories.
Before the Final ceremony there will short beginner SUP sesión for disabled people as we did last year.
