This winter, from the 27th Oct to the 15th of March 2013 the SUP surfing championships will be held in Switzerland. As you know Switzerland has no coast line. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have waves. When the wind is blowing down their massive lakes, swell and breaking waves are formed at various spots around the lakes. This allows the Swiss surfer an opportunity to catch some waves. This event is for the hard core only, with water temperatures around 5-8 degrees and the air temperature around 0 degrees.
The riders will have to film their sessions over the winter, and post their best waves on the assup website. They will then be judged at the end of March. This is a great event for the Swiss surfers, and shows you don’t need to live near the coast to go SUP surfing. For more info and the latest rider videos go to www.assup.ch
